BENEFITS OF DENTAL CROWNS
When Might I Need a Crown?
Dental crowns are protective caps that restore both the look and the functionality of a tooth that has been damaged, or which has an irregularity. The entire structure of the crown is designed to provide reinforced strength that teeth need in order to chew food. However, this doesn’t mean that they look out of place; Dr. Tejas Patel and the team at s Austin Cosmetic, TX make sure that each crown is molded, fabricated, and placed according to the unique dental profile of the patient.
Some of the situations that a crown can correct include:
Teeth that have been weakened, either by loose fillings, by decay, or by old dental procedures. Over time, our teeth can go through a number of different scenarios that can all lead to stress, cracks, and breakage. Even if we believe that a previous dental procedure has saved a tooth, there may be a situation where a crown will be necessary.
Teeth that may have structural imperfections that will lead to damage. This can occur due to the natural structure of the tooth itself, or through genetic conditions that can effect the viability of a tooth’s protective enamel. Exposure to acids and sugars can also weaken the structure of a tooth, and make a crown the best option moving forward.
Extreme discoloration, which can occur due to habit, genetics, or a number of other circumstances. Extreme discoloration may or may not be a sign of a more serious dental health problem, but a crown may be the best way to address the problem, particularly for molars. For front-facing teeth, you may want to consider porcelain veneers.
DO YOU THINK DENTAL CROWNS ARE RIGHT FOR YOU?
Crowns are often recommended as the best and most affordable way to save a tooth from further damage. They can even be applied in situations where you might have thought the only option would be to take a tooth out. From saving existing teeth, to preventing broken teeth from becoming infected or further damaged, crowns are some of the single most efficient options in many different dental situations and profiles.
BENEFITS OF DENTAL CROWNS
The Crown Process
Dr. Patel will provide an examination and a consultation that includes a review of your past and current dental health to determine what the best course of action will be moving forward. The consultation is the best time to discuss prices, and your financial options.
Once Dr. Patel has determined that a crown is right for you, your damaged tooth will be prepared for crown placement. This part of the process is usually very low in the pain department, and mainly involves removing any old crowns or fillings which may already be placed. An impression of the tooth will be made.
The mold will be sent to a dental lab, where your crown will be fabricated and customized to fit the look and feel of your natural teeth. You will receive a provisional crown until the permanent crown is ready.
Once your permanent crown has been prepared, Dr. Patel will place it to see if it is the right fit, as well as the right appearance to match your teeth. If everything is good, then he will bond the crown to your tooth permanently. Follow-up care will make sure that you’re healthy and happy with your crown.
If you’re worried about how much pain may be involved, or what the prices may be, rest assured that Dr. Patel and the staff at Austin Cosmetic are here to work with you, and answer any questions that you may have about the procedure. Call Today 512-476-2336.
