Emergency Dental Care in Austin

Have you ever had a need for emergency dental care that happened at just the right time? Of course not. By definition, emergencies happen unexpectedly. That’s why it’s important to be prepared for an emergency, dental or otherwise. One way to help prepare for dental emergencies is to have a dentist who is available beyond the hours of 9 to 5. This is where Dr. Tejas Patel and the team at Austin Cosmetic Dentistry in Austin, can help.

If you are experiencing a dental emergency—and basically that includes any problem that necessitates urgent care in order to save a tooth, to stop continuous tissue bleeding or to relieve serious pain—then call our office at (512) 476-2336. We will assess your emergency over the phone, provide guidance and determine the best course of action. If necessary, we will try to see you in the office as soon as possible. If your emergency happens after regular business hours, then call the same number and you will be given a phone number to contact us directly.

Emergency Dental Care for Your Family

When people think of a dental emergency, the first situation that may come to mind is a knocked out tooth. And while that certainly is serious (did you know that you stand a better chance of saving a tooth that’s been knocked out if you see a dentist within 30 minutes?), the far more common emergency is a toothache. Not all toothaches are serious. Try to think back—did you bite down on something hard recently? If so, then your tooth may simply be irritated and need time to recover. If you can’t recall eating something hard, or if the pain is getting worse, then it’s time to call Dr. Patel.

Decay, infection and traumatic injury are the most common causes of tooth pain. In the case of infection, seeing Dr. Patel as soon as possible is important, so that he can examine the tooth and determine whether or not root canal therapy is necessary. Left untreated, an infected tooth can develop an abscess and actually become a life-threatening condition.

For any toothache, be alert to the following symptoms that indicate you should call our office:

  • Pain when you chew
  • Sensitivity to hot or cold
  • Bleeding or another kind of discharge from around a tooth or your gums
  • Swollen tissue around a tooth or near your jaw
  • Obvious injury to the area

Other dental emergencies that warrant a phone call to Austin Cosmetic Dentistry include:

  • A loose tooth or a tooth that is suddenly out of alignment
  • A cracked or fractured tooth
  • A tear, laceration or puncture wound to your lips, cheek, mouth or tongue.
