CEREC same-day crowns. CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) is an in-office CAD/CAM system that allows us to design and mill your custom crown right here in our downtown Austin office. The process starts with a digital impression, no messy putty, then our software creates a 3D model of your restoration. The crown is milled from a high-quality ceramic block and placed the same appointment. For patients who work nearby or are visiting Austin from out of town, the ability to complete the entire process in one visit is a significant advantage. What is a same-day crown and how does it work?+
A same-day crown is a custom dental restoration made and placed in a single appointment using CEREC CAD/CAM technology. Instead of taking a traditional impression and sending it to an outside lab, we use a digital scan of your tooth to design and mill your crown right here in the office. You leave with a permanent restoration the same day, no temporary, no follow-up appointment required.
Are same-day crowns as durable as traditional crowns?+
Yes. Same-day CEREC crowns are made from high-quality ceramic and zirconia materials that are comparable in strength and longevity to crowns made through traditional lab processes. Zirconia in particular is one of the strongest materials used in modern dentistry. With proper care, including regular brushing, flossing, and dental visits, your crown can last for many years.
How long does a same-day crown procedure take?+
The entire process is completed in a single appointment. You’ll go through the digital scan, crown design, in-office milling, and final placement all in the same visit, so there’s no need to block off time for a second appointment down the road.
Does insurance cover same-day crowns?+
Austin Cosmetic Dentistry is a fee-for-service practice and does not accept dental insurance. However, many patients find that the convenience of completing care in one visit is well worth the investment, and we’re happy to discuss the cost of your treatment during your consultation so there are no surprises.
Do same-day crowns require a temporary crown first?+
No, and that’s one of the biggest advantages of CEREC same-day technology. Because your permanent crown is designed and milled during your appointment, there’s no need for a temporary restoration to wear while a lab works on your case. You leave with your final crown already in place.
